Serving a wide spectrum of organizations including academic teaching hospitals, multi-hospital systems, and providers that focus on children, orthopedics, rehabilitation, long term acute and other specialty care, our hospital clients vary in jurisdiction with local, regional or national footprints.
Our underwriters welcome the opportunity to partner with hospitals to develop long term insurance strategies, analyze and address industry factors such as market consolidation, physician integration, quality initiatives and expense management necessitated by decreasing reimbursements. With an understanding that risk exposure and litigation environments can vary dramatically between provider types and regions, our underwriting approach is refined through substantive interaction with clients and their broker/agent intermediary professionals to ensure that coverage is crafted to meet each hospital’s unique exposures.
Berkley Healthcare Professional Underwriters can offer standard or bespoke structures on an insurance or facultative reinsurance basis, and can craft an array of alternative risk transfer options, including capability to assist hospitals seeking to transition to a captive insurance company structure. Participation on client programs may be through standalone limits, or quotashare with either qualified (re)insurers or our hospital clients.
Our physician program focus is two-fold. The first is to partner with hospital clients to address employed physician integrated coverage needs. Under this structure, we seek to leverage the benefits of joint or coordinated defense strategies, while providing a flexible structure that accommodates the client’s physician platform growth strategy.
We also offer excess physician capabilities to larger independent groups, or for hospital clients that seek to distance or separate their facility excess limits from physician-related exposure. This focus also includes physicians groups that use captive or risk retention group structures. Where required, we may consider offering admitted paper.
We can address every aspect of this class including skilled nursing, assisted living, memory care, independent living, hybrids such as continuing care retirement communities, and associated services such as home care, adult day care, hospice, personal services and other specialty care. Our client profiles include large multi-state operators, regional providers and single location facility owners – the full spectrum of senior care providers.
